I promise, this is a one-off

I promise, I am only going to do this on my blog once, because as my son is adopted, it is important to maintain his anonymity, but I am just so amazingly proud of him. And this blog is about my stamping life and not my family life really.
I don't talk about him on my blog very much, but he is truly the most beautiful thing in my life, he gives me and his dad so much joy, laughter and happiness.
He has severe dyspraxia (I think in the US it is called apraxia) and ADHD, with very severe verbal dyspraxia and he now attends a speech and language unit to help with his educational problems.
Anyway, last night Rob and I went to watch him in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves with his mainstream school year (the Speech and Language Unit is attached to a mainstream school), he was a hedgehog, one of the woodland animals, and although I am his mum, he was amazing.
He is in the picture with Sneezy and a mouse. He has come so far in so short a period of time. At 4, he was incredibly shy, incredibly lacking in confidence and very aware that no-one could understand a word that he said. He used to cry constantly, hide at the back, fidget and not sing. Last night,at 7, he was hamming it up like a good un. He was singing on the stage, reading the words of the song off a projector behind the audience (he still has extreme difficulty with reading), smiling, laughing, over-acting and having so much fun with his friends and I was soooo proud.
So forgive me this one indulgence in talking about my family, but yesterday was a good day! :)

Your a mom and that's what we mom's do....we brag about, talk about and are proud of children. Your son has accomplished so much in such a short time that you have every right to be proud and shout it so the world can hear.

1st of all this is your blog ;) So brag all you want!

No wonder you are so proud of your son! Its not easy to be up in front of an audience ad to be so entertaining and cute! It sounds like he is making lots of progress.

Hi Alli,

Can't really tell you how I came across your blog - but I have a feed set up cuz I like lookin at your cards! Anyway - I am in the middle of reading a book called, "The BRAIN That CHANGES ITSELF" by Norman Doidge, M.D. If you can get your hands on this book - I think you will find chapter 2 "Building Herself a Better Brain" (A woman labeled "retarded" discovers how to heal herself.) and chapter 3 "Redesigning the Brain" (A scientist changes brains to sharpen perception and memory, increase speed of thought, and heal learning problems). According to this book - these scientists have put together software that has helped kids with all kinds of learning disabilities; autism, ADHD, etc. I personally am checking all this out because of my grandson's LD (fallout from Bacterial Meningitis as an infant). I think it is at least worth a look. (Your little guy is "almost" as cute as my grandson *wink*)Darla

Oh, Alli, we are who we are because of our families. I think your son is adorable and you should be proud of him. My son, Andrew, also was diagnosed with ADHD. Such a difficult thing to deal with, but he's all grown up now and doing just fine. As will your son. Do tell us about him from time to time, I enjoy hearing about family life of all rubber stampers.

OK I'm not biased 'cos I'm not his mum, but he is a fab little boy and we love him loads. He has come so far and it's partly due to his tenacity and humour, and loads to do with Alli and Rob. The are fantastic parents and make a lovely family and we're proud to call them our friends.
